The Rare Advantage of a Builder Who Does It All — Design to Build, All In-House

If you’ve ever built or remodeled a home, you know how many moving parts there are — designers, drafters, tradespeople, subcontractors, schedules, budgets, and plenty of waiting around. It’s a lot. Most contractors juggle it all by hiring out nearly every trade to someone else. You could have dozens of people, unknown to you, walking through your home, and just as many taking a cut of the total project cost.

But at BirdTree Building + Design, we like to keep things closer to home — literally.

We’re a boutique builder based in Joshua Tree, California, serving the entire Morongo Basin. That means we’re small by design, hands-on by nature, and passionate about crafting beautiful spaces that truly belong in the desert landscape. What really sets us apart? Almost everything we do — from design and drafting to building and finishing — happens in-house.

Design That’s Meant to Be Built

Because we handle design and drafting under the same roof as construction, we don’t just draw something that looks good — we design something that builds beautifully. Every detail, from window placement to material selection, is created with the actual build in mind. The result? Projects that are as practical as they are inspiring, with fewer surprises once the work begins.

Then once the build phase comes along, the project’s build stays true to the soul of the design. When the people who design your project are the same ones building it, the integrity of the vision stays intact. There’s no loss in translation between a design firm and a construction crew. Every cut, joint, and finish is made with full understanding of the intent behind it.

Expect artisan features. We can dream big, because we already know the carpenter who is going to source the spalted maple to build the custom vanity with the same lumber for the matching shelves and bathroom bench. With the design in house, we are prepared to build something that feels exactly like what was imagined — or better.

The Simplicity of One Point of Contact

We take on a limited number of projects so that we can maintain the kind of relationship we want to have with our clients. That level of hands-on involvement is rare these days, and it’s one of the biggest reasons our projects stand out. Working with one small team means communication stays easy and clear. You’re not bouncing between a designer, a contractor, and a half-dozen subcontractors — you’re talking to the same few people who are making it all happen. It’s a simpler, more personal way to build.

Quality Over Quantity — Every Time

We’re not chasing volume or trying to juggle ten projects at once. As a boutique builder, we focus on a select number of homes and remodels each year so we can give each one the time, creativity, and craftsmanship it deserves. Our Clients get more options, and more involvement. The way we see it, these projects should outlive us and we are so lucky for the opportunity to create something that is a long lasting, living artwork.

A Rare Find in Modern Construction

Most contractors depend heavily on subcontractors, this New York Times article captures what a rare gem a company like ours is in today’s industry. Even more unique; a contractor who designs, drafts, and builds under one roof. But that’s exactly what we do — and it’s what makes our work so cohesive, cost effective, and quintessentially “us.” From the first sketch to the final nail, our team handles it all with care, intention, and pride.

If you’re dreaming up a project in Joshua Tree or the Morongo Basin, and you want a local design-build contractor who handles it all, we’d love to talk. At BirdTree, we build with heart — and we believe that shows in every space we create.
